It's Mr. L. Bow of Brentwood, Essex. I'd recognise him anywhere.

1. It is funny to see that after few weeks there is still some people thinking that "Misterious" is miss-spelled, while I already explained that it is a mix between the words "Misterioso" and "Mysterious" an italian and an english word. ...ah, and... I guess that probably the word "Mysterious" comes from some latin word...

2. If you had watched the competition "London Marathon 2005" you could have guessed, the arm is of Baldini, that is the the winner of the last Olympic Marathon.

I actually tried to take a Picture of Baldini, but for some reason the camera was too slow and missed him!

Actually the word came from a 17th century Jewish-Italian pawnbroker who operated a loan-shark business in Bethnal Green, London. His name was known to few (and was, in any case, unpronounceable), so his clients (victims?) called him Mister IOUs, after the promissory notes he made them sign. Over time, this became "misterious", as 17thC. Londoners weren't too fussy about grammar, and it has lasted to this day.

20337 is that something you just invented or is there something true in what you are saying? ...in that case it would be a very interesting story smiling
smiley ...oh well it would be a nice story even in the case you invented it!

I'm surprised that you even considered taking that one seriously, mkcerusky! According to the Oxford Dictionary (which is pretty good at things like that), the word is derived from the Latin =mysterium= (in turn derived from greek =must urion=) _or_ old French =mistere=.

I left out a ) there, which turned the last bit into gobbledegook...but you can look it up yourself if you can be bothered.
