Australia has become a unique market for American automaker Ford and it’s no more evident than in the growing popularity of the Falcon GT (the Mustang representative in the Land Down Under).

Now it appears that Ford has a surprise for its Australian customers because the fastest Ford Falcon GT ever created is set to debut at the upcoming Australian International Motor Show in October.

No technical details have been officially announced, but it’s expected that the car, which has been codenamed as "Panther," will carry a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 engine that produces an impressive 449 horsepower at 5,750 rpm and 420 lb/ft of torque at 2,200 rpm. This allows the car to hit 0-62 mph in just five seconds with a top speed of 155 mph.

The Falcon GT Panther is also looking at carrying a set of 19" wheels to go with tuning work done on the suspension to make it sportier, as well as stability control systems, and an upgraded transmission to improve its overall handling.

Expect more details of the Ford Falcon GT "Panther" when it makes its debut at the Australian International Motor Show in October 2012.

Shame its days are numbered. When Ford decided a couple of years ago to add a 4cyl engine option on the Falcon (been a straight 6 for .. I think forever) it was the sound of its last breath.

I owned a Falcon for around 8 years, loved that car but will never get another.

Global chasis coming 2015, no more Falcon for Australia.
It'll be a Ford Taurus if you want a 4 door.
Sad.

the American Taurus (new body style) is a nice car. i'd take one in a heart beat! but it's more than the Lincoln MKZ by $10,000. no way in hell it's worth that much money.

My re-chipped XR6T did 4.8/100, that was 4 years ago.
V8s are way over-rated, all they do is noise. An I6 with 1 or 2 turbos will always leave them for dead.
I used to race a local cop I knew in Goulburn, and a few of the locals out the initial stretch of Federal Hwy twice a year.
Not once did any of their v8s get anywhere near me, taking off or already at speed. We used to laugh about that, they were always looking for me at Floriade time. Had I had the moolah for an F6 they'd have been dead in the water.
Dang, I miss that car!

yeah, not many cops have V8's here, and none have turbos, but a turbo 4 banger will give most stock V8's a great run, and a turbo V6 will just about smoke any stock V8. i want my Mustang back!!! (*facepalm*)

I want my Supra back sad smiley Twin turbo, V6..

I did consider buying a Falcon XR6 turbo, but just decided I don't want a car that's physically that big. Then again, given what cars are here now, anything would probably be better.

That said, I haven't driven a car since I bought the new one for my wife 2 months ago, and all I did was drive it home. Otherwise I haven't driven in 3 or 4 months. I just don't need to, work pays for taxis everywhere work related, and I just tend to be busy doing stuff (mostly working) most weekends.
