One of my all time favorite aircraft because I love how it looks. It was the
contender vs. the then YF-22 for the Advanced Tactical Fighter contract.
It lost because it was slightly more expensive and too advanced and
unconventional looking for the Air Force at that time. It was more stealthy and
faster than the YF-22, but the YF-22 was more agile.

There is some clandestine report floating around that a couple of these are
still flying today as "test beds" for newer technology.

Ahaha, good one Fossil. F-22 funding stops at 187 planes. I concur with much of
the sentiment that the F-22 program was bloated at best. The F-15, F-16, and
F/A-18 Super Hornet are all we need. Great planes, all of them.
We'll see how the F-35 program goes from here, but We already have a great VTOL
aircraft in our inventory, the Harrier.
