The Mississippi and Missouri river join right here at this conservation area,
this is where I grew up believe it or not, Lewis and Clark started their voyage
and
camped out up the Missouri river a couple of miles at
"the steps," also known as
Fort Belle Fontaine (French), it's funny, I was hiking the
trails all over in these areas and never knew the actual history behind them all
until I got a damn computer, also, they weren't actual Parks when I was younger,
we just made them our parks.
Anyway, there are proposals pending to put in a casino/hotel etc. right next to
the conservation area that the image above represents a small piece of, this is
supposedly going to be the last casino allowed in Missouri (#13), so far $$$,
and it just pisses me off, the people in these areas don't want it but the local
politicians want the cha-ching kickin' in their backyards. You can already get
to 2 casinos within 10-15 minutes from these sunflowers and that doesn't even
count the other 2 in Illinois that you can get to within 15-20!
That didn't help much!
