I find it inconvenient to BE oppressed. Give me the option of wearing a mask or not and I'll choose NOT every fuckin time monty
smiles

I guess the OPs point is lost in the concept of who then IS the oppressor, inconvenient governmental proclamations or businesses honoring their proclamations as salient, well thought out logical inconveniences totally lost

I'd say you're not being oppressed, you're being given conditions of entry. If you want to enter, you meet the conditions.. or you don't enter. They're still giving you the choice.

I agree that you'd never CHOOSE to wear a mask. They clearly do work though when used properly. There's a reason surgeons don't just wing it.. As soon as you start touching it, moving it, dropping it to talk to people, wear it too long or in the wrong way - it absolutely loses effectiveness. It's as much to protect me from you, as you from me.. given the shit going on right now, I'd rather be told I have to wear a mask to go outside than deal with the 6 weeks of lockdown that started here today.

Who exactly is determining the efficacy of mask wearers actions? Is there any insurance what so ever that the bulk of mask wearers are doing so in any manner that leads to them actually being effective for any longer than a few minutes at best?

Surely you're aware that the most commonly used masks, yes, the type worn by doctors and nurses every day, are only effective in a best case scenario for no more than 20 mins. in a STERILE environment, right? Bandanas, scarves and all the plethora of other crap people wear to simply cover their mouth and nose are significantly less effective and can actually pose increased risks of contamination to the wearer as well as anyone around them.

The reality is that wearing a mask is a perfunctory act of compliance to then allow us travel amongst our fellow compliant members of society without being reprimanded for refusing to do so.

I currently wear a mask for over 30hrs a week and can tell you this does lead to several unwanted side effects that have nothing to do with covid.

Even wearing one where it vents as freely as possible it still leads to ingestion of lower levels of oxygen, yakno that stuff we NEED to take in to live and function.

The masks quickly collect moisture from respiration and also cause increased perspiration which quickly makes the mask itself totally ineffective at doing anything other than making it a sponge for contamination of all sorts, not just covid.

This decreased ingestion of oxygen also causes some to experience the effects of a loss of mental acuity which can also lead to depression. Can't say this is how it effects me but I can surely relate I'm not doing my best when my level of oxygen is less than it could be. It does also lead to increased levels of phloem I hafta spit up as well as increased nasal congestion too. All of this so I can be a good little compliant citizen and stay off the damned welfare/unemployment roles and try to continue instead to be a functioning/contributing member of society.

In years to come when all this travesty of conflated nonsense is written about we'll have a more thorough picture of what it cost the world as a whole in terms of personal freedoms, costs to uninfected citizens who were forced with compliance of politically driven mandates to be subjected to other health issues, costs to how businesses and even complete nations economies were ravaged by these required compliances, all over a man made virus that had a survivability rate at or above 98%, meaning it never even reached a true pandemic state in realistic terms.

While you might not view this as oppressive, that's fine, we all get to choose how we view things nerd

Two days ago I was at a grocery store and almost everyone was wearing a mask (now mandatory in the state where I live) .. most were masks made from some flimsy cloth material or a simple dust mask.. most people I watched were fidgeting with their mask and/or had their nose outside of their mask.. I saw one guy pull his mask down and then cough without covering his mouth in any way, then put his mask back on.
If you still believe that a mask will save you then I just don't know what else to tell you..
It is my opinion that the handful of people that are wearing masks correctly are very possibly slowing the spread of their germs. Keyword is 'slowing', they are not stopping it.
I am not worried about getting covid-19 anymore then I have ever worried about getting any other illness.
20+ years ago I had cancer and I wasn't scared of that so why would I be scared of this?
I'm not scared because I know Everyone will die. When your number is, your number is up. If you're meant to die from the Rona then that's that.
As for the argument that by not wearing a mask you are putting others at risk? Nonsense. If you see someone that is not wearing a mask and you're scared of the Rona, then stay more than 6 feet away from them, what the fuck is so hard to understand about that?

Also:
I do fully believe that a business has the right to refuse service to anyone.
So if they say you can't go in without (or with, in some cases) then don't go in. It is that easy.
The anger that people have about this issue comes from the fact that liberals have successfully destroyed people and their businesses for refusing service to people because of religious beliefs.
I'm among the group of people that don't like double standards.

And after overwhelming evidence is presented showing how ineffective wearing a mask is an I-know-what's-best-for-you-and-you-should-do-as-I-say lib still wants to finger wag

Excuses? Excuses for what?
I gave reasons.
Also, I have never said whether or not I personally wear a mask...but you have assumed that I don't.
Your desire to be angry and judgemental is sad.

PJ - I've never really understood fatalists like you obviously are with the 'if your number is up, your number is up' attitude. I mean, why use a seatbelt, wear a helmet. or carry a gun for protection. It's not worth it, as 'if your number is up, your number is up'. Where do you draw the line? Do you lock your door at night? If so, why?

Yes, I'm a fatalist..
I look at this way, if death were a lottery then everyone would eventually 'win'..but that doesn't mean I'm going to go out and buy extra lottery tickets.. e.g. yes, I wear a seat belt etc..
Because I don't fear death it doesn't mean I welcome it..
Likewise, I don't fear Covid-19 but that doesn't mean I'm out licking handrails...
Does that answer your question?

Just not taking basic steps to avoid it?

If you're using a chainsaw would you wear hearing protection? Eye protection? Make sure you're not going to cut your arm off because you'll hit a tree instead of a shoulder?

I'm with Gak, where's the line? What's an acceptable risk and what's "oh well time is up"?

Fatalist? Hmmm ...

I usually don't wear a seatbelt though I'll have it over my shoulder so the cops leave me alone, but, if I'm out slammin corners in the country or if it's rainin I'll put it on. Nothin beats the adrenaline rush I get takin a car to the edge of what it can do and if I managed to die that way, so long as I'm doin over 100mph at the time, I'd go out with a smile.

Always wear ear protection when needed, always have because I appreciate good hearing. Somethin my appreciation of music has always driven me to take care of, so ... Samey same w/eye protection.

Def not a germophobe but if I've been doin some plumbin well yeah I'm gonna wash my hands before it's time to eat. Always remember the 2 rules of Plumbing: 1. Payday's on Frydee and 2. Don't chew your fingernails.

None of us get to know when our last day here is gonna be, which is problee a good thing (*binladen*)

If I'm using a chainsaw, I wear safety glasses, ear plugs, AND a hardhat...
Like I said, because I don't fear death it doesn't mean I do things to increase my chances of dying...read the part again about "not buying extra lottery tickets"
I generally enjoy living and I hope to live several more years..but I simply don't stress over whether or not I will...
Not caring about my eventual death doesn't equate to living carelessly.
