because we live in a completely backwards society here in the U.S.
I just got back from a road trip from NYC to Atlanta. we drove thru the
Carolinas, Virginia, D.C., and Pennsylvania... but we forgot to bring any CDs to
listen to, so we listened to the radio stations and wow! holy fuck! you wouldn't
believe how many stations in a row were nothing but jesus shit and they were
playing all of these ad's about how abortion is murder and one station had this
hick even calling on the klan to rally against having "a nigger for
president"

It is all based on social history and economics. Cigarettes raise lots of
taxes and establish a baseline for breaks in a manufacturing setting. Workers
need breaks every once in a while anyway and a cigarette break is a good metered
interval. Beside, it kept pensions down by keeping the proletarians from living
too long. Then it starting breaking down as treatment for emphysema and lung
cancer were developed in the 1960s and 1970s -- that is when the anti-smoking
movement started up. it is one thing if people just died, but it costs so much
to treat that an anti-smoking movement was needed has got to stop. Oh well, a
lot of people don't give a crap and smoke anyway.
Now ganga on the other hand... if you left your desk for a pot break, you'd be
gone for hours.

hmmm, I guess it depends on who you are, but I just left my "desk"
for a smoke break at 4:20 today, and right after I hit that bong I wwent back to
work...
of course I am a special case, I can not socialy function at all in such a shit
world without being blazed and my job is a bull shit one too, so no I'm not
suggesting everyone go and smoke pot on their breaks, but there is nothing wrong
with doing so at the end of the day

Smoking is easier to attack then drinking because all of congress enjoy their
martini lunches and won't give them up. I enjoy my beer and smoking but I would
much rather give up the beer then my cigarettes. When you people put Obama in
office I guarantee everything will become illegal. We will not even be allowed
to smoke or drink in our won home. We will not be allowed to hunt at all. we
will even have thought police who will arrest us if we even think about anything
against the administration. Sure looks like the end of the world is coming in
2012 to me.

ShaDEz - You make a good point. I find myself making pointless comments on
various internet message boards to get through the day -- or I pretend I am spy
on the Borg, prtending to be assimilated. Nonetheless, in general, for most
people, assuming there is no sex or booze, pot breaks would tend to be longer
than regular smoke breaks (if you did not have to hide it).
