I went to a school that taught you how to think, not what to think. And one of the lessons was judging what's marketed.

Of course, there's a direct relationship with willingness to judge and self esteem.

Last day of school in year 10: you should always judge what's promoted, by politicians or marketing. Independent Christian (protestant) school.
