Yeah, we never got much coverage of what happened at the pentagon. The media
only seemed to focus on the towers. Does anyone else have further info about
this, and why was it less publicized?
Captain_Hungwell Report This Comment Date: July 23, 2005 10:42AM
Though, I sense a few suspect things. I do think it was kinda convenient how my
prime minister, John Howard was across the road from this and your ex president,
Bill Clinton was in my country when this happened. Maybe it was some organised
justification to go into Iraq. One thing I do know, the majority of Australians
did not want our government to send troops to Iraq. It's not our war. But if we
didn't back the US, and we got into trouble ourselves (eg: invaded by
Indonesia), we would not have the US' support to help us out. Cause one thing's
for certain, our commonwealth (the poms) wouldn't help us. Just like they didn't
help us in Gallipoli, WW1 and WW2. They fed us like lambs to the slaughter. It
is clear in history now, if the yanks didn't drop the bomb (Hiroshima), we
probably wouldn't even be on this planet. It seems to be a situation of
"catch 22" for us Aussies in one respect, though on the other hand,
New Zealand were brave enough to stay out of it. Maybe we should've followed
suit.

I am photojournalist and was in the US Capital when this plane struck the
Pentagon. They evacuated the Capital quickly. People were rushing past me
everywhere as I covered the surrounding events.
After the evacuation - my crew and I drove to the Tidal basin across from the
Pentagon. Smoke and the smell of Airplane fuel filled the air on an otherwise
beautiful September morning. The sky was filled with helicopters and sounds of
sirens...and nothing else. There was no cell phone service. People tried
desperately to reach family members and loved ones, but the main cell towers for
major cell phone comapnies were atop the towers in New York and signals were
jammed. There was spreading rumors thatr more American buildings were targets.
People panicked.
The Pentagon has a Kevlar membrane which lines the interior walls. This membrane
prevented more extensive damage. However the damage that the explosion did
create was a gaping hole about the size of 4 football fields deep and wide. I
walked through it a week after the eplosions while on assignment.
I believe that the Pentagon is an extremely well guarded government building
which infrastructure must remain internally protected. In any case - this day
and the events surrounding these terrorist attacks will forever permeate my
memory. I have covered wars for over a decade and have seen this type of
destuction first hand. What we all have to realize is that any type of
terrrorism shakes your civil liberties and changes the horizon of EVERYONE's
freedom world wide. We are increasingly becoming a police state, untrusting of
our neighbors and ever weary of when the next atttack will come. This isn't
about - Yanks - Aussies - Brits or Muslims. This is about defending humanity and
supporting the ideal to live free - and to feel free - let's face it - freedom
as we knew it is ever changing. It's shrinking down to an outline of which all
of us must follow. With that our ideas - our beliefs - our ideals and way of
life is compromised. Forget about your politics and defend one another in
astruggle against maniacs that are hell bent on forcing you to fear through
their cowardice, faceless terrorism.

Horseshit.
Freedom and liberty were never under attack. That is nationalistic crap for the
stupid.
This attack was not about radical fundamentalist islam. That is more manure. It
was about white nations entering muslim countries and using their natural
resources without paying for them. People and the the land.
Since the masses in these countries are poor due to phony ruling classes hording
the money, the masses only have terrorism as their option to make statements.
The masses do not have military technology or nuclear weapons. If they did you
would have a conventional war. They are not unlike the american colonists who
used terrorist acts and guerrilla warfare to defeat the conventinoal british
army in the 1770s.
The longer the west hides behind nationalism and fails to admit they mistreated
muslim people around the world these freedom fighters will always want to bring
the west harm.
Get a clue little people. This can't change if the west does not change its
policies. The west already changed its policies with Russia and China. The
masses in muslim nations are now requesting that same change as well.

I wasn't stating my politics "beast" - I decided not to give my views
of politics - I was giving a first hand account of what i witnessed - what's
with all of the agression? I don't disagree with some of what you are saying -
but why fight for the sake of fighting? My comments didn't cover the entire
cause and effect.
I have traveled to the Mid-East 6 times over the past 2 years both as a
photojournalist and for humanitarian efforts. I have seen firsthand "both
sides" of the fence. I didn't care to discuss Christian Fundamentalism and
Muslim friction - it wasn't my point. I was stating my feelings as a spectator
in an ever changing political climate.
Maybe you should stop pointing your finger - trying to shove your message down
people throats and actually do something positive. Maybe you should climb down
from your pedestal and enlighten the "little people" or just "get
a clue" and use ALL of your political knowledge to make a
difference...whatever that may be.

Aggression ? Aggression requires an action not words. I stood strongly against
your position or the "way you saw things" calling it an emotional
event coupled with nationalistic sentiments and fear mongering. If questioning
your position is aggressive then let it be so. Seeing a car crash is emotional.
But using that event for a bigger agend is downright shameful.
You called this a terrorist attack a few times in your post. That was what I
objected to. This was not a terrorist attack. The more people say it, the more
it is reinforced. This act was conventional war for the poor.
These poor defenders of the muslim world want the people of america to hold
their leaders accountable. The american people have proven lazy and/or gutless.
If these defenders wanted to directly scare the masses in america they would not
have hit the WTCs and certainly not the pentagon. They would have hit sports
stadiums. Say a college football stadium on gameday like Michigan, Ohio State,
Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Univ. FL, Univ GA, LSU, Penn St., and many more.
Sept 11th was during football season. That would have been a logical action to
scare the american public. But that is not what happened. Why ?
The american public is not invading muslim countries and stealing from them.
The american and british militarys have for 150 years.
I live and work in DC. And I never felt threatened. No one at my place of
employment felt threatened. The American way of life was never in danger.
Most people allow themselves to be used as pawns and to be whipped into a frenzy
with nationalistic rhetoric. NAZI Hermann Goering said at his trial in
Nuremburg:
"Why of course the people don't want war. Why should some poor slob on a
farm want to risk his life in a war when the best he can get out of it is to
come back to his farm in one piece? Naturally the common people don't want war:
neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is
understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the
policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is
a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist
dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding
of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being
attacked, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the
country to danger. It works the same in any country."
If I have to defend myself, it is through government accountability with
criminal prosecution of those in office.
Leaders like Bush, Cheney, And the Nixon crooks that are behind Bush have put
many americans in peril. The sooner the american people realize this, the
better.

i believe the origtinal post asks the question, "where is the plane?"
i have seen many pictures of the pentagon on that day. from outside, inside and
overhead. i have to ask also, "where is the plane?" planes that size
don't just disappear or disintigrate. someone has to keep asking...where is the
plane?
