It is a pity that the people of the USA do not realize that although they are
voting for president of the US, they forget that the said president is almost
the president of the world.
By this I mean that he is the most powerful individual on the planet (except
maybe Oprah W.).
This has the effect that the president of the USA is voted in on his/her
domestic policy whereas they may not have a clue about international problems. I
could name a few US presidents lately that started office as complete virgins in
international matters.
The end result is that they do things to please their domestic opinions, while
at the same time screwing the rest of the world quite royally.

Maybe our problem is not that the president elects don't have foreign policy
experience, maybe our problem is we are only able to elect politicians. There
was a time when any ordinary joe could get elected as president but now only
rich people can get elected. When ordinary people become politicians their
common sense just goes away. We don't need a president who has international
policy experience, we need presidents with common sense and no political parties
which push their adgendas.
