I agree with FD, better to let criminals live their lives out in shame and in jail, than give them the freedom and martydom of state-sanctioned murder. Capital punishment is barbaric. A life of suffering is better, and more cruel (read: just).

But again, Saddam was the US's buddy for a long time, so all the crap talk about how the US "took down a dictator" should be tempered with the fact that the US "supported a dictator until he crossed US". Hypocrisy and double-standards. Can't live with them, can't run an empire without 'em!

Saddam has the best chance of living in luxury in the UAE in exile. Other sunni arab leaders will not permit Saddam to killed by Iraqi Shia courts.

that dynamic is the heart of the current civil war in Iraq.

The US would best be served by convincing Iraqi shia leaders to let Saddam live in exile to cool tensions in Iraq.

Anonymous, it wasn't leftists who disgraced the US in Vietnam. Think about it. Protesters saved countless soldiers lives by speeding up the inevitable -- pulling out of an unwinnable war.

You should be thankful to them, because the military couldn't pull out on its own. They had to wait until the tide of popular opinion made them realise what now seems blatantly obvious.
