Jumbo, yes, the presumption of innocence and innocent until proven guilty beyond reasonable doubt are important ideals in civilized society. The idea being that it is worse to wrongly punish an innocent than to let a guilty person go free. This works fine in an environment where the crimes are limited in their threat to society. However, a society that rigidly adhears to this ideal irregardless of the current environment would be negligent. That is why War Measures Acts exist to curtail rights in times of war. In the case of Islamic militants, small numbers are an extremely dangerous threat to society in general. Therefore in this case it is worse to let guilty people go free than to imprison innocent people. It is just too great a risk to let these extremists go free. One mistake could lead to thousands of people being killed.
