Stussy-demon, SPR was a depiction of the landing at Omaha beach and the areas where the 101st airborne division were dropped. It was not supposed to be a comprehensive story of the entire invasion. So naturally it did not show the British and Canadian landings. By the way, it is common knowledge that during WW1, the British used the Canadians for missions when it was deemed that there would be extremely high casualties. I believe this was also the case during WW2, I'll check it out.
And yes Bob, U-571 was in no way historically accurate, and I don't think it pretended to be. It was simply made to bring in the biggest box office draws, and that means catering to the masses. Every country has nationalistic tendencies, not just the U.S. Everyone wants to see their country kick ass, it's human nature.
