Does the punishment fit the crime is the question I'd like answered and struggling to answer. Though on the one hand, I sympathize with the poor bugger, on the other, as what katalyst said, trying to smuggle drugs through Singapore is like running through a barb wire. One knows the risks involved. The signs are everywhere. But the dealers still try to do it (or get their runners to do it) because once you pass through Singapore, its almost a free ticket home.
