We're also seperated from the animals by the ability to become totally confused and blindly follow some demogogue-idiothead until we commit mass murder for the sake of an idea. Like, say, patriotism. Or "god".
If the reasonable people can't get their point across to the "converted", perhaps their's isn't to stfu, but to avoid being nailed to something for being right.
