There are no markings I can find on it and I don't really know what kind of metal it is either. It has some weight to it and would hurt if thumped in the head with the handle. None of the old timers around the fleamarket know what it is either. None of the edges are sharp so a surgical tool is probably not right and another guess was an old time button hook but it is pretty big for that. Since I don't know what it is I wouldn't be able to say who is right and who is wrong but my guess of a soup spoon for dieters is definitely wrong.
