Look gnarly1972, these guys fought and died for that idiot to be able to say
whatever he wants. You should really learn what the freedoms of this country are
all about before posting such drivel.

crap is the same freedom that gives gnarly the right to say Fuck you.

Who cares anyway about what Mailerdaemon says or posts. He must not have much
of a life as he obviously spends most of his free time on plus613 posting and
spouting anti-american crap.

The Nazis were responsible for the industrialized slaughter of millions of
Jews, as well as others deemed untermensch such as gypsies and slavs. The
Japanese killed millions of Chinese. I think it was something like 7 million.
The U.S. was took a huge part in bringing these nightmare regimes down. It is
hard to comprehend how much we owe these people who risked and gave their lives.
When I watched contemporary war films like Saving Private Ryan, it really hit me
how much courage and selflessness these Americans displayed when they charged
out of those landing craft and stormed those machine gun nests while mortars
were tearing them apart. The landings during the island hopping offensicve
against the Japanese were worse. I wondered if I really could have done that
myself. It's one thing to sit back with our comfortable lives now and think that
we could, but it must have been so terrifying that we cannot comprehend it. One
time a hunter shot a high powered rifle and it ricoched off something and it
buzzed right over my head. I could really sense the incredible power in that
projectile and it scared the piss out of me. I seemed like that thing could rip
my head right off. I can't imagine what it would be like having people AIM those
at me trying to kill me.

The worst american war film ever for distorting the facts is U-571. I know
americans like to take credit for every single victory in WW2 but that film was
bullshit. Claiming that the Americans first captured the enigma machine when it
was the Brits is plain pigheaded.

Stussy-demon, SPR was a depiction of the landing at Omaha beach and the areas
where the 101st airborne division were dropped. It was not supposed to be a
comprehensive story of the entire invasion. So naturally it did not show the
British and Canadian landings. By the way, it is common knowledge that during
WW1, the British used the Canadians for missions when it was deemed that there
would be extremely high casualties. I believe this was also the case during WW2,
I'll check it out.
And yes Bob, U-571 was in no way historically accurate, and I don't think it
pretended to be. It was simply made to bring in the biggest box office draws,
and that means catering to the masses. Every country has nationalistic
tendencies, not just the U.S. Everyone wants to see their country kick ass, it's
human nature.

Agree whole heartedly with Anonymous@94220. Americans are sticking their big
noses into every countries affairs.
Good intentions admittedly, but so far have only proved that they can blow shit
up and not change a political environment for the better the way they
planned.
This picture is just a reflection of the frustration that some people around the
world feel. That is, that america and it's allies can start something. They just
can't seem to finish it.

Intersting point...Austrailians seem to jump right in there and fight alongside
the yanks whenever they see an opportunity. "Oooo Oooo can we play
too?"
Anonymous Report This Comment Date: February 01, 2005 04:25AM
Yeah Australians seem to jump in whenever they see an opportunity to take down
a nightmarish homicidal regime and free an oppressed people. There are worse
things to fight for. Since WW1, the US has not been afraid to take action to
stop tyranny, repression, and genocide. Case in point: Nazi Germany slaughtering
jews and slavs to free up lebensraum in Eastern Europe for the superior german
people, Imperial Japan clearing China for Japanese expansion, Serbians executing
thousands of muslims for ethnic cleansing. Saddam, repression and execution of
thousands of Kurds and Shiites. All brought to justice with significant help and
leadership from the US. And what appreciation and thanks do they get? It is a
lot easier to take no action in the face of injustices. There is no risk for
making mistakes or suffering criticism is there? Just like pedestrians that see
an old lady getting mugged and refusing to help. There is no risk to taking no
action except the risk of sacrificing your principles. By the way, I would just
like to express my admiration for the brave Iraqis that defied the threats from
the Islamic terrorists and voted for a new age in the middle east.
Unfortunately, some Iraqis did die and the only crime they committed was trying
to exercise their right to vote. It is hard to comprehend the motivations of the
maniacs that strapped explosives to themselves, stood in line with voters, and
detonated their deadly packages. It seems to me that people enjoy disparaging
the US more than these murderers. The irony is almost unbearable.
